How Old Should Kittens Be Weaned

Behaviour modification and weaning.
How old should kittens be weaned. As the kittens reach four to six weeks old the queen will begin to wean them and her milk supply will become more scarce as this happens. Once you start to wean your kittens it s a good idea to try and feed them about four times a day if it s practical for you breakfast lunch tea and bedtime. The weaning process normally begins when kittens are around four weeks old and is usually completed when they reach eight to ten weeks. Weaning refers to the process by which a kitten goes from mother s milk to solid food.
Talk to your vet about feeding methods. Make sure that your kitten has the opportunity to eat around four times a day until it is six months old. If you are in charge of weaning an orphaned kitten please remember that weaning should not be attempted at too early of an age. Certainly by five weeks old all of your kittens should be taking an active interest in more solid food.
The process generally begins when a kitten is around four weeks old and should be complete by eight to ten weeks. The weaning process usually continues for about another month until the kittens are fully weaned between eight and 10 weeks of age. To complete the transition moisten the kitten food less and less until it is accepted by the kitten in its original. During this time the kittens will still occasionally nurse on their mother but they will also start to eat liquid kitten food.
